Our history

Delta Distribution was formed in April 1985, as a result of merging the Transport interest of United Bottlers (Sparkling Beverages), National Breweries (Lagers Manufactures) and Chibuku Breweries (Sorghum Manufacturers), under one roof. The purpose of this merger was to rationalise the expertise required to run a Heavy Motor Vehicle Fleet, and to show increased levels of operating efficiency and vehicle synergy.

The Driver Training Centre offered the following courses:

  • Icono Training (Competency Based Training)
  • DDC Advanced
  • Conversion to Articulated Vehicles, and the Fuller Gear Box
  • HMV Class 2 training, to obtain a drivers license
1989

1989

The Driver Training Centre moved from Delta Distribution (Transport Services), Telford Road, to National Breweries (Lagers Manufacturing).

  • Lorry Driver of Year Competition began. A driver from UB, Harare was the first to win this new event.
  • The aim of the competition was to encourage safe driving amongst all Delta Distribution Heavy Vehicle Drivers.
1991

23 September, the official opening of the Delta Distribution Centre at Natbrew, Southerton.

  • Icono training was phased out and replaced by the Delta Driver Development Course (DDDC), which is still currently in operation.
  • Training programs included: Special/Conversion Course, Night Driving; DDDC Course, Night Driving Defensive Driving; Course (DDC), Advanced Night Driving HMV; Class 2 Drivers License.

LMV Class 4 Training to obtain a drivers license.

1995

1995

September, DD Driver Training Centre moved to Ruwa.

1997

1997

The Truck Driver Simulator was commissioned.

1998

1998

LMV Driver of the Year Competition was introduced with the objective of safe driving.

2002

2002

April, LMV Defensive Driving Course Driver Improvement Programmed (LMV DIP) was introduced.
